Michael McLean – recognizing Missing or Murdered Indigenous Women
Michael McLean had an idea come to him after he had a meeting with the “Missing Sisters Committee”. The “Missing Sisters Committee” biggest issue was that when an Indigenous woman goes missing or murdered that often times it never makes it as news worthy.
Michael proposed that what is needed was a permanent reminder that this is a real and genuine concern. Consequently Saskatoon is the First City in Canada to recognize missing Indigenous women and girls as a national concern, by erecting this memorial on May 5, 2017.
Michael McLean is from James Smith Cree Nation. Michael’s main goal in his career endeavours was always to try and make a difference, not for awards or the recognition, but because it was the right thing to do.
We are honoured and proud to have Michael McLean be a part of our Firebird Business Consulting Team!
